Mexican President meets German counterpart in state visit

Mexico City, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, today received his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the palace, who began a state visit.

The president received him in the Patio of Honor where the ceremony was held in which a military music band played the hymns of both countries and then the host president presented Steinmeier with part of the cabinet that was present, and they immediately left for the presidential office for a private interview.

On the Mexican side, the delegation is made up of Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Tatiana Clouthier Carrillo, of Economy, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, of Finance and Public Credit.

In addition, Rocío Nahle, from Energy, Octavio Romero Oropeza, general director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), and Manuel Bartlett Díaz, general director of the Federal Electricity Commission.

The composition of the host delegation marks the work agenda and the reasons for this State visit. On behalf of Germany, it is made up of Wolfgang Hermann Dold, ambassador to Mexico, Wolfgang Silbermann, adviser for Political Affairs of the Office of the President, and Cerstin Gammelin, spokesperson. The two heads of state were accompanied by their respective wives.

Shortly before, in his morning press conference, the Mexican president said he was going to receive Steinmeier with great pleasure and confirmed he would hold a private interview with him and also have a meal with German businessmen who are accompanying him and are interested in speaking with us of economic and trade relations and how to strengthen them.

He added the issue of the war in Ukraine is not on the agenda, but he did not rule out that it be addressed in private conversations with the visitor, because if the opportunity arises, he will take advantage of it.

He clarified what was proposed is to try to strengthen relations at the meeting and that is why German businessmen are coming, who know the situation that prevails because Mexico is very attractive for foreign investment and Germany is an important trading partner.
