The shipment of 1.8 tons of narcotics, valued at almost 279 million dollars, was hidden in a warehouse in the southwestern port city of Lagos, which until 1976 was the capital of the country.
The operation, which began last Sunday, also resulted in the arrest of the warehouse manager and four major drug traffickers, one of them identified only as a Jamaican national, the announcement said.
The statement of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency adds that those arrested are members of an international drug trafficking cartel that has been under investigation for at least four years.
