Uruguayan university students hold protests

Montevideo, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) The Federation of University Students (FEUU) and teaching staff continue protests against government policies.

The premises of the University of the Republic (Udelar) are still being occupied in defense of the university budget.

They are also manifesting against the policy of salary cuts and losses, better study and work conditions, as well as in defense of the right to education.

Teacher training students denounce insufficiencies in the granting of scholarships for young people with limited resources.

The Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences were occupied on Tuesday in a joint action of the FEUU and the Association of Teachers of the University of the Republic (ADUR).

The union will carry out a 24-hour strike and will gather at the legislative palace to express their demands when the Accountability of the Ministry of Education and Culture takes place.

Later the General Assembly of the faculty will take place in the assembly hall of the university.
