Ukraine forbids its students from traveling abroad

Kiev, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) The Ukrainian Border Guard today banned students and men ready to fight from going abroad, due to the massive falsification of documents.

According to the information broadcast on Thursday by the TV channel ‘5.ua’, last September 5 the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine explained that only those students who entered educational institutions abroad before February 2022, could cross the border.

The Border Guard pointed out this measure does not work because a massive forgery of student documents necessary for departure started and, therefore, it was decided to prohibit the departure of all students, in order to prevent evasion of military service.

According to spokesman Andrei Demchenko, men aged 18 to 60 are restricted from leaving the country.

Students will be allowed to leave when the government amends its provision 57 on border crossing, but the cabinet is dragging its feet on this issue, Demchenko said.

The official added that between July and August more than 600 forged documents presented at the border as confirmation of studying abroad were detected.

In connection with this, a decision was made to deny exit to this category of people, i.e. those who were studying abroad before February 24, Demchenko said.

The head of the committee on finance, tax policy and customs of the Verkhovna Rada, Daniil Guetmantsev reported earlier that Prime Minister Denis Shmigal refused to sign the provision on the possibility of going abroad for certain categories of men.
