According to Asia News, the USS Ronald Reagan docked at a naval base in the South Korean port city of Busan to participate in a show of intimidating force against the DPRK and its nuclear program.
He noted that this is the first time in four years that an aircraft carrier from the North has arrived in South Korean territory, marking the most significant deployment so far in that region, he said.
Meanwhile, diplomats from Russia, China, Britain, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, the U.S. and the ROK participated in a forum to support the peaceful development of Northeast Asia and the reunification of Korea, according to Montsame news agency.
During the meeting, it was recognized that Northeast Asia is facing difficult situations such as the persistent threat of the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing tension on the Korean peninsula.
According to experts, the arrival of the aircraft carrier in South Korea further strains the outlook and distances the chances of a peaceful solution to the problem.
For Pyongyang, the military buildup in the Republic of Korea and the maneuvers of the U.S.-South Korean joint forces prove the hostile policies of Washington and Seoul and constitute rehearsals for war against the DPRK.
The day before, DPRK accused the U.S. of spreading rumors such as an alleged arms deal with Russia with the intention of discrediting the Asian country with politico-military pretensions.
