In his speech at the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the president lamented the inefficiency of the international organization to respond to phenomena such as hunger, migration, and the wars that today plague the world.
International law and agreements are not being enforced, said the president, who later called to create programs and strategies to improve the situation of ‘those who suffer,’ he noted. The leaders’ responsibility with history is not to ignore the accumulated shortcomings and failures, said Anastasiades, who described the UN as ‘a repository of problems.’
Despite the declared intentions of the Secretary-General (Antonio Guterres) to proceed with the reform of the organization, the lack of will of the ‘powerful’ States does not allow such changes to take place, he added.
