People globally demand end of US blockade against Cuba

Washington, Sep 25 (Prensa Latina) Hundreds of people worldwide demanded on Sunday the elimination of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years and the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The caravans and rallies against Washington’s punitive policy against Cuba took place in Panama, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Italy, and Canada.

According to information released by the Bridges of Love solidarity movement, more than 50 cities joined the call in the United States alone, including Boston, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Seattle, Bloomington, and Miami.

“We have an international caravan on September 25 to end the measures that punish the Cuban family, an international caravan for the end of the blockade against Cuba,” Carlos Lazo, leader of the movement, said.

The activist reiterated that the aim is to advocate for implementing effective measures in pursuit of reopening the US Embassy in Cuba, restoring remittances, family reunification, and an increase in flights to other Cuban regions, in addition to Havana.

The reality for the Cuban family is the gap between words and deeds by the current US administration. There are no fundamental changes regarding Cuba: the difficulties created by the blockade or all 243 measures imposed by former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) and maintained by incumbent President Joe Biden have not been fixed, he said.

Every last Sunday of every month, Bridges of Love convenes events against the US blockade, which has been intensified in recent years.

In addition to demanding the lifting of the unilateral blockade, which has caused damage to citizens, the organization also condemns Cuba’s unjust inclusion in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, which limits the Caribbean country’s access to international financial credits, among other damages.

This time, Carlos Lazo also called to join a Twitter campaign condemning the coercive regulations against Cuba.
