Cuba is ready to start recovery after Hurricane Ian

Havana, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said that the country is getting ready to begin recovery after the impact of Hurricane Ian in the western region of the Caribbean island.

After the considerable damages caused by the meteorological event, with the greatest impact on the province of Pinar del Río, we will move forward in the shortest possible time, the Cuban head of government said on his Twitter account.

Hurricane Ian made landfall around 03:25 local time on September 27, in the town of La Coloma in southern Pinar del Río, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour.

Its center left the national territory at 09:50 of the same day, in the vicinity of Puerto Esperanza, in the Pinar del Río municipality of Viñales.

The Provincial Defense Council said that the main damages left by the natural phenomenon are in agriculture, telecommunications and the electrical system.

These losses were confirmed on site by the president Miguel Díaz-Canel, who conveyed to the people the conviction of a quick recovery.

The damages are great, although they have not yet been counted. Help is already coming from all over the country. We trust in the people of Pinar del Río, a noble, hard-working people with a lot of experience in these situations. Rest assured that we are going to recover’.
