Ibero-American Meeting of Museums ends in Mexico

Mexico City, Sept 28 (Prensa Latina) The tenth Ibero-American Meeting of Museums (EIM) will end on Wednesday after two days of sessions at the national museums of Anthropology and History, Castillo de Chapultepec, in this capital.

Held within the framework of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development (Mondiacult 2022), this event is an opportunity to draw attention on the importance of these meetings for social cohesion, memory and heritage preservation.

The EIM was held under the slogan “The urgent museum: action for a sustainable future,” and its program included more tan 20 reflection, proposal and action activites led by over 50 experts from this region.

There were lectures, exchange of experiences, pannels, round tables and workshops led by Ibero-American experts on this topic, including director and creator of the Art Theory and Practice Foundation, Argentine Americo Castilla.

For his part, Portuguese Paulo Pires do Vale gave the lecture “About the usefulness and inconvenients of museums for life.” Virgen Perez, president of Cuba´s National Heritage Council, also spoke at one of the panels.

The meeting, which is also part of the intergovernmental meeting of representatives of the 22 countries of this region, addressed four themes: Museums and the community: the social and educational role; and Decolonization and museum heritage: new impacts in the face of historic challenges.
