The senior official, who was answering questions from the press accredited in Moscow, referred to the possibility of continuing the special military operation after the results of the referendums held in the Donbas and the Kherson and Zaporozhie regions.
Peskov added that he could accurately say that not all the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic has been liberated, and said he was referring to the region that was within the 2014 borders. Therefore, at least it is necessary to liberate all that territory he stated in response to the question whether after an incorporation of the new regions into Russia it could be said that the objectives of the special operation in Ukraine are fulfilled.
At the same time, Peskov reminded that the whole territory of the Luhansk People’s Republic has already been liberated.
‘A more detailed answer, you will receive in due time, in case the documents on the accession of these regions to Russia will be signed,’ the spokesman added.
The Donbas, Zaporozhie and Kherson regions held referendums on their accession to Russia, in which residents there overwhelmingly supported the decision.
