Cuba denounces US blockade at conference in Mexico

Mexico City, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, today condemned the impact of the U.S. blockade against the cultural sector in his country, while speaking at Unesco's Regional Consultation for Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to sources from the Cuban delegation, Alonso also thanked in his words the solidarity of several countries and organizations in view of the serious damages caused to Cuba by the recent passage of Hurricane Ian.

On Wednesday, in a dialogue with the Cuban head of state, the director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Audrey Azoulay, expressed her interest in the situation in Cuba after the hurricane.

From Paris, it was reported that this UN agency expressed its willingness to support Cuba in the recovery process for the damages caused by the atmospheric phenomenon.

The Secretariat of the multilateral organization said that through its office in Havana and its headquarters in Paris it is available to participate in the recovery, within the framework of its mandates.

The Cuban Minister of Culture participates in the World Conference on Cultural Policies (Mondiacult) 2022, which began the day before at the Chapultpec Forest facilities in this city, convened by Unesco and the Secretariat of Culture of Mexico.

The invitation was answered by 190 ministers or their representatives and other intellectuals, who began the sessions this Wednesday morning and will conclude on Friday.
