Departmental Board of Montevideo rejects blockade against Cuba

Montevideo, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) The Departmental Board of Montevideo expressed its rejection of the blockade that the United States exercises against Cuba, and considered it inhumane and an economic war that hinders the possibilities of development of the Caribbean island.

This was adopted in a resolution in view of the forthcoming presentation by Cuba, for the thirtieth time, of a draft resolution before the United Nations General Assembly, which calls for the cessation of that U.S. policy.

The document adopted states that the blockade is abusive and extraterritorial, and was especially intensified during the pandemic period with the implementation of 243 coercive and unilateral measures.

The Montevideo Board recognizes that these actions included the impediment of financial transactions, cessation of bank transfers to citizens, sanctions against Cuban companies, as well as the persecution of oil companies, insurance companies, shipping companies and even crews transporting fuel to the island. For all these reasons, the Departmental Board of Montevideo considered that the blockade is an act of war unilaterally imposed by Washington, in times when it is necessary to work tirelessly to ensure peace.
