World summit on geothermal energy opens in Salvador

San Salvador, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Delegations from 45 nations will begin today and until October 1, the world summit that will promote the use and research of geothermal energy sources, organizers said.

Daniel Álvarez, president of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), which is part of the organizing committee, said that the meeting aims to share knowledge and experiences with representatives of the rest of the nations that generate this type of energy.

The High Level Meeting of the Global Geothermal Alliance will host countries that are part of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

According to Álvarez, what is being sought is the transformation of the world’s energy matrix, which is something to which we must all be committed. The Salvadoran executive added that this meeting will discuss how all countries can contribute so that there is more geothermal energy, whose technology has been available for a long time.

Since the beginning of this week several delegations arrived, among them the United States, Mexico, Iceland, Italy, Kenya, Japan, Africa and Pakistan, interested in knowing what the country is doing to transform the energy matrix and achieve a real transition to renewable sources.

Among the participants are Central American countries with great potential in the development of this renewable source, such as Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
