China starts operating its own oil platform

Beijing, Oct 3 (Prensa Latina) China began operating the Haiji-1 oil platform, 340.5 meters high and developed with domestic technology to extract crude oil and natural gas in deep waters.

According to the state company Cnooc, the installation was located off the coast of the southern province of Guangdong, weighs 40,000 tons and should initially produce 2,700 tons of fuel per day.

It is expected to gradually extract 5,000 tons of hydrocarbons daily.

The developers of the Haiji-1 assure that the technologies incorporated to the platform offer advantages such as greater efficiency, low cost in oil work and a high level of localization of deposits.

In recent years, China has discovered and exploited vast reserves of oil and natural gas both onshore and offshore, helping to bolster national energy security and the economy of surrounding regions.

The Tarim field – located in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region – is both the largest and one of the most difficult to explore due to a rugged onshore environment and complicated subway conditions.

Its operations account for one-sixth of the country’s total gas production and the fuel extracted annually benefited 400 million people in more than 120 cities, as well as more than 3,000 companies.

The outlook for the coming years is positive, as production is expected to increase to 36 million tons of hydrocarbons in 2025.
