It is the contract construction of the Russian mining and metallurgical company Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel), the Helsinki Shipyard notified Tuesday.
A Sputnik news agency report added that that Finnish ministry issued a negative decision on the export license for the icebreaker ordered by Norilsk Nickel (the decision was made on September 30).
On January 18, it was reported that the Finnish shipyard Helsinki Shipyard ОY, which belongs to the co-owners of the Russian river cruise company Vodohod, would build an icebreaker for Nornickel. Work was to begin in 2022 and delivery of the vessel would be in 2025.
In that regard, the new 30-megawatt icebreaker would be used on the Yenisei River and in the Kara Sea, escorting ships to the port of Dúdinka in northern Siberia.
Helsinki Shipyard ОY is a Finnish shipbuilding company of which Helsinki Shipyard is a part. It is primarily responsible for building icebreakers and reinforced hull vessels for Arctic regions. pgh/abo/mv/rfc
