Lula’s victory ratified in first round of Brazil elections

Brasilia, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) on Tuesday officially confirmed the victory of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the first round of Sunday's election in Brazil, with 48.43 percent of the votes.

The TSE corroborated the triumph of the presidential candidate of the Workers’ Party after counting one hundred percent of the ballot boxes, 41 hours after the official time foreseen for the end of the voting.

Lula will contest the second round of voting on October 30 against the far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro, who is seeking re-election for the Liberal Party and won 43.20 percent of the valid ballots.

None of the candidates achieved in the first contest an absolute majority of votes, that is, more than half of the valid votes (excluding blank and invalid ballots), as under Brazilian legislation to be elected.
