Russia donates tests to detect monkeypox to Ethiopia

Test-viruelamono
Addis Ababa, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) The Russian embassy in the capital of Ethiopia delivered more than 500 test kits to detect monkeypox to the Institute of Public Health.

As notified by the Institute and the Ministry of Health, these diagnostic kits were manufactured at the Russian State Center for Research in Virology and Biotechnology, and are similar to those distributed in other nations.

They also explained that they are available in Russia “with a manual of practices to identify the disease, to which Ethiopian specialists also have access.”

According to a notification released by the embassy, “the transfer was made between representatives of the diplomatic mission, the Balcha hospital of the Russian Red Cross and the Ethiopian Institute of Public Health.”

Although there are still no cases of the pathogen identified in any region of the country, as of last July the health authorities increased epidemiological surveillance.

Since then, tests of international travelers and refugees have increased, plus border control measures, and some 50 laboratories have been established to detect the virus.
