Russia expels Lithuanian Chargé d’Affaires

Moscow, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Russia expelled Lithuanian Chargé d'Affaires, Virginija Umbrasiene, as a response measure and ordered her to leave the country within five days, media reported on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the diplomat was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was informed that in response to the unjustified expulsion of Russian Chargé d’Affaires in Lithuania, Sergey Riabokon, she was declared persona non grata.

In addition, given Lithuania’s hostile policy to the severance of humanitarian relations, Russia is freezing the activities of the cultural center of the Lithuanian diplomatic mission in Moscow, the Baltrusaitis House.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also stressed that, depending on further unfriendly steps by Vilnius, Moscow reserves the right to take additional measures of influence.

On October 3, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry informed that Riabokon was declared persona non grata.

That decision was made in view of information from the responsible authorities that the Russian diplomat’s actions and statements were allegedly incompatible with his diplomatic status.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry considered them interference in the internal affairs’ of this Baltic country and ordered Riabokon to leave the country within five days.
