Every October 6, Cuba recalls one of the most dreadful terrorist attacks in history, one of the so many perpetrated against the Cuban people which targeted the sports movement.
A member of the delegation made up of 24 members of the Cuban youth fencing team, winners of the Central American and Caribbean Championship who were returning home on that fateful flight, 20-year-old Ines Luaces could not celebrate with her family after this terrible event.
A few minutes after taking off from the Seawell Airport in Bridgetown, Barbados, for Jamaica and Havana, people from different nationalities on board were killed.
Ines Luaces became a symbol in Camagüey.
Besides, Camagüey’s Sports Initiation Center pays tribute to her and her comrades every year.
The history of the Cuban sports movement has always recalled the Barbados sabotage as one of the moral banners of the Cuban people, who have established October 6 as the Day of the Victims of State Terrorism.
