Mexico is still looking for medical experts from all over the world

Mexico, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) Mexico is still looking around the world for doctors to fill 749 vacancies in 43 specialties, the director of the Mexican Social Security Institute, Zoe Robledo, said on Tuesday.

The official informed at President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s morning press conference at the National Palace that these vacancies are to fill positions in remote hospitals in the country.

He recalled that in order to fill the shortage of medical specialists, the Mexican Government has launched an international campaign to recruit and hire these professionals to participate in the process to transform the Mexican healthcare system.

He explained that the intention is for specialized doctors to work in remote areas in Mexico for one year and to provide care to the population who lacks social security.

We have launched a call for specialists from other parts of the world, and not only from Cuba, for those who are interested in coming to Mexico to work for a period of one year in these difficult places in 54 hospitals in 13 states of the country,” he said.

He thanked Cuba for its response to the request for help and for having signed the agreement in this regard, and for the support from Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard in providing the facilities not only to disseminate the call in the embassies, but also to speed up the necessary procedures to hire medical specialists.
