Vietnam’s candidacy endorsed to the UN Human Rights Council

ONU1-1-300x200
Hanoi, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The Vietnamese national news agency VNA supported Vietnam's aspiration to join the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2023-2025 term in two substantiated editorial opinion articles.

“Respect and understanding – Dialogue and cooperation – All human rights for all”, is the message with which the country presented its candidacy and which was valued by the president of the HRC, Federico Villegas, the agency said in its comment entitled “Vietnam, reliable partner to promote peace, development and human rights”.

The article alludes to a recent post of The Washington Times, which states that Vietnam deserves a seat on the HRC because, since joining the United Nations in September 1977, it has effectively contributed to its operations of peacebuilding, development and guarantee of human rights.

The publication itself also highlights that Vietnam deserves great trust from the international community by being elected twice as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2008-2009 and 2020-2021 terms.

As it pointed out, Vietnam actively participated in the process of discussing and adopting many important UN resolutions and declarations on development cooperation, disarmament, the fight against the proliferation of nuclear weapons and terrorism, and the guarantee of human rights.

It also recalled that during its mandate at the HRC (2014-2016) it proposed and participated in numerous initiatives that received the support of the international community, including the resolution on the impacts of climate change on children’s rights.
