At the Manuel Galich Hall of Casa de las Americas, experts will focus on the region’s memory and native languages, fundamental to vindicating Latin American culture, as well as its articulation through communicative strategies, resistance experiences, activism, and leadership.
As part of the extensive program of lectures, book presentations, and documentary screenings, the film “La Ternura” will be screened.
“El Llamado de la Ñuke Mapu,” by filmmakers Rodrigo Pinto and Ricardo von Muhlenbrock, who portray the resistance of the Mapuche people in defense of their rights and the rescue of their history, will be exhibited.
The event for reflection and debate, which will be in session until October 14 in Havana, continues on Wednesday with a panel on strategies to reduce the excess mortality rate among the indigenous population in the complex scenarios of the challenges faced by this community.
The agenda will also include the inauguration of the bibliographic exhibition dedicated to Brazilian politician, educator, writer, researcher, sociologist, and anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro, on his 100th anniversary.
With the participation of delegates from Guatemala, Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and the United States, this event is part of the actions for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages proclaimed by the United Nations.
