Israel besieges Nablus, one of the largest cities in the West Bank

Ramallah, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli army blockaded Nablus, one of the most populated cities in the West Bank, until further notice, as the siege of the Shuafat refugee camp, near Jerusalem, continues for the fifth consecutive day.

The Maan news agency reported that the Israeli military closed all access to Nablus this morning, as well as several checkpoints, including those of Huwara and Surra.

The media reported a general strike in the town in denounce of the harassment of the Tel Aviv troops.

Attacks from the city against Israeli military patrols and checkpoints have multiplied in recent weeks.

Israeli intelligence blames these incidents on a newly created Palestinian militia called the Lions of the Lair.

The faction claimed responsibility for the death of an Israeli soldier in the West Bank yesterday.

Schools and shops in East Jerusalem were closed in the morning in solidarity with the inhabitants of the Shuafat refugee camp and the town of Anata.

Troops surrounded Shuafar on Saturday night as part of the hunt for a Palestinian attacker who killed a female soldier at a Jerusalem checkpoint hours earlier.
