On his Twitter account, the head of State noted, “We are a people in permanent resistance that fights against colonialism’ and we renew the commitment to and defense of the native peoples’ dignity.
We support them and reject the manipulated version of history with which they have tried to cover up (Spanish) colonial barbarism, he stressed in another tweet.
In her speech, Minister for Indigenous Peoples Clara Vidal recalled that since 2012 the date of October 12 pays tribute to the struggles of ‘our native peoples.’ This, she said, no longer represents the date dictated by the usual colonizers to ‘pay tribute to the historic massacre and opprobrium.’
She recalled that the Bolivarian Revolution, headed by President Hugo Chavez (1954-2013) definitively changed history by turning those peoples into protagonists and allowing them to take an active and leading role in the national life in the social, cultural and political spheres.
