China denounces hit to supply of processors due to US restrictions

Beijing, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) The Chinese association of the semiconductors or processors industry denounced alterations in the global supply chain of these parts, after the United States announced new restrictions on imports by domestic companies.

The organization issued a statement rejecting said restrictions, called on Washington to revoke them and also to air any concern within the international mechanisms established for disputes in the sector.

It criticized the abuse of the concept of national security to justify discriminatory measures in trade, warning of the damage of a unilateral policy to the global supply chain of processors.

The Chinese association predicted a climate of uncertainty as a result of the US actions and the negative impact on cooperation, mutual trust and the well-being of millions of workers in the industry.

Last Friday, the United States Department of Commerce announced a ban on exports of machinery, processors or semiconductors for supercomputers and artificial intelligence to China. It also adjusted an act that extends the extraterritorial coverage of export controls to certain items produced abroad.

According to the White House, both decisions will restrict China’s ability to obtain cutting-edge technology to develop supercomputers and manufacture advanced semiconductors for military applications.

As a result of the measure, several US processor manufacturers began to suspend services to Chinese customers, while Korea’s Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix announced a one-year moratorium to comply with any orders.
