The ISA was launched in November 2015 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former French President Francois Hollande during the 2015 UN climate summit in Paris.
It is a partnership of 121 signatory countries, mostly sun-rich nations located between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
Solar energy is an efficient, economical and environmentally friendly alternative form of energy and the purpose of the alliance is to work towards its efficient consumption to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the burning of which releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, causing global warming.
The ISA facilitates access to energy, ensures energy security and drives the energy transition in its member countries and helps develop a low-carbon growth approach. Its key motto: ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’ seeks to facilitate worldwide cooperation, building a global ecosystem of interconnected renewable energy resources (mainly solar energy) that can be shared without problems.
