Approximately 15 million Syrians need humanitarian aid

Damascus, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said that the economic situation in the country is very difficult and nearly 15 million people need humanitarian aid.

The situation of Syrians both in the country and abroad is very difficult, the envoy told reporters after meeting with Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mekdad.

The official spoke of difficulties on all these fronts regarding the situation in Syria.

As I have said several times, the political process has not given anything to the Syrians, but the UN remains committed to helping solve these problems, he said.

On the other hand, he stated that since March 2020, there has been a ceasefire in the country and the front lines have not changed; however, a large number of Syrian civilians are being killed.

A press release from the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that Foreign Minister al-Mekdad told Pedersen that US and Turkish occupation of parts of Syrian territory violates Syria’s sovereignty and threatens peace and security in the region.
