Qatar reduces air destinations to ensure World Cup attendance

Doha, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) Qatar Airways announced the withdrawal of 18 destinations to make room at Hamad International Airport for airlines that will bring fans to the World Cup next month.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said the priority now is to accommodate the hundreds of flights that will land in the country for the tournament, a stage in which it expects to receive about 500 daily flights, apart from charters and private planes.

The official explained that there are not and will not be new destinations in the days prior to the great event of the so-called king of sports.

Our priority is not the Qatar Airways network, but to give access to all participating countries and bring a large number of passengers,’ he stressed.

It is estimated that at least 1.2 million people will fly to this Arab nation to enjoy the sporting spectacle to be held from November 20 to December 18 and where 32 countries will participate with matches spread over eight stadiums, located within a radius of 40 kilometers from the center of Doha.

The Qatari authorities announced that they are working on all fronts to ensure the quality of the World Cup and the enjoyment of spectators, players, international authorities and coaches, among others.
