Authorities from Myanmar’s largest city reported the explosion of two artifacts and said that the victims were three prison officials and five visitors.

Myanmar Now newspaper reported that one of the civilians killed was the mother of student activist Lin Htet Naing, who was visiting her son at the prison.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack which has led to a large deployment of the army in the area, the newspaper noted.
