Mexico City, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) The good results in the fight against crime in Mexico raised popular confidence in the security institutions to almost 80 percent, the sector's secretary Rosa Icela García said on Thursday.

The official showed official figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography highlighting a decrease in the perception of insecurity and the blows received by criminal gangs, mainly organized crime.

The secretary appeared at the presidential morning press briefing at the National Palace with her colleagues from the Defense, Navy, and National Guard, who gave details they had already mentioned in the Senate of the Republic on Wednesday.

García showed a decrease in crimes such as kidnapping, car theft, and femicides, compared those results with homicides per six-year period since Carlos Salinas de Gortari in 1994 and said there was a 12.7 percent decrease in the country’s 50 priority municipalities.

She said that they managed to affect the criminal and financial structures of all groups that generate violence.

In an unprecedented effort, 65,149 members of criminal gangs were arrested, among them 6,043 linked to organized crime, 2,216 of which were priority targets.

With the Federal Government’s plan to combat organized crime, in coordination with the Ministries of National Defense and the Navy and the National Guard, said the official, 32,746 firearms, 17,352,000 cartridges, and 2,300 grenades were seized.
