Vietnam prepares voluntary national review on SDGs

Hanoi, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam on Wednesday started the preparations for a Voluntary National Review (VNR) report on implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2023.

The SDGs have become cross-cutting premises in the country’s strategies, policies, and sectors, Planning and Investment Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc said at a seminar in Hanoi.

Ngoc added that we seek to gather opinions for the process of drafting the report to achieve the common goal of completing the implementation of these objectives, a path in which some achievements have already been made. Among these results, the official mentioned the sustainable reduction of poverty, the guarantee of essential health services, universal education, access to drinking water, information technology infrastructure, and stable forest coverage.

The deputy minister also emphasized that in the 2023 voluntary national review, the country wants to share its experiences and difficulties in implementing the SDGs five years after preparing the first report.

Vietnam’s VNR was first presented at the 2018 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, held in New York, the United States.
