López Obrador and Kerry to meet next Friday in Sonora, Mexico

Mexico City, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican Foreign Ministry confirmed that the U.S. presidential special envoy for climate, John Kerrry, will meet with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador next Friday.

It revealed that this new visit by Kerry will be in Hermosillo, Sonora, a border state, and there López Obrador will present him with the energy plan for that institution, which includes the development of renewable energies.

The Director for North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Velasco, confirmed the visit and the main purpose of the meeting.

The meeting, he said, will be to discuss what has been progressing and working on energy and climate change.

The most important thing for us is how this connects with the Sonora Plan, which is what the President is promoting at this moment, Velasco said, and indicated that López Obrador will be accompanied by members of his cabinet.

I am sure, he said, that it will be a very good conversation because we have been working for several months with Kerry’s team on several issues.

He revealed that last week, when he was in Washington to participate in the high-level bilateral meeting on security matters, he saw Kerry very enthusiastic about this visit, the fourth to Mexico in this administration. He recalled that there is a very ambitious plan to attract investments to Sonora, which incorporates clean energies and the president will discuss it with his guest and expressed that everyone is very enthusiastic.
