Pope Francis receives French President Emmanuel Macron

Rome, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) Pope Francis received French President Emmanuel Macron in an audience on Monday, with whom he exchanged views on the regional and international situation for 55 minutes.

An official communiqué issued by the press office of the Holy See noted that during the meeting, the two leaders discussed, among other issues, the conflict in Ukraine, in particular its humanitarian consequences, as well as the situation in the Caucasus, the Middle East, and Africa.

The Pope gave the French leader a bronze medal, framed in marble and depicting St. Peter, as well as the 2022 Message for Peace, among other gifts, while Macron reciprocated with a first edition in French from 1796 of For Perpetual Peace, by Immanuel Kant.

After his contact with the Supreme Pontiff, during which he was accompanied by his, wife Brigitte, Macron met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, in the presence of Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

The French leader, who is in Rome to attend the conference The Cry for Peace, organized by the Catholic Community of Sant’s Egidio, will coincide with Francis again at the closing session of the event on Tuesday at 16:30 hours, local time, in the Roman Colosseum.
