Speaking at the opening of the second session of the first legislature, corresponding to the 51st annual meeting of the Qatari Shura Council, the emir warned that propaganda against Qatar is becoming increasingly fierce, and many are questioning the reasons behind such actions.
The emir said in his speech that since they got the honor of hosting the World Cup, they have been subjected to an unprecedented campaign that no host country has ever faced. Initially, they treated the matter in good faith, and even considered some of the criticism as positive and useful to help them improve.
However, he said it was clear that the matrix of unfavorable opinion tends to continue and expand to include fabrications and double standards.
He stressed that hosting the World Cup incorporates several elements that make up the components of credibility and ability to positively influence; this is manifested by accepting the challenge and integrating it into their national development projects and plans.
He added that holding the Cup is an occasion to portray who they are, not only in terms of the strength of their economy and institutions, but also their identity.
The emir concluded his speech by highlighting the warm hospitality and generosity of Qataris to those visiting the country during this event, which will take place from November 20 to December 18 in Qatar.
