The armed conflict is preventing the arrival of supplies sent by the UN for refugees in both areas of eastern South Sudan, in areas where rival groups are fighting, while the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported that in addition to those wounded in the armed clashes, the displaced are suffering acute food shortages.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that the number of people affected by the floods is close to one million, adding up the destruction of crops, homes and infrastructure.
