Guatemala reports 14 new monkeypox cases

Guatemala City, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) Guatemala´s Public Health and Social Assistance Ministry (MSPAS) on Friday confirmed 14 new cases of monkeypox, bringing total figure to 88.

This is the highest number since the first patient was reported on August 3.

The new monkeypox cases are men aged 20 to 48, mostly residing in the department of Guatemala (13) and one in Santa Rosa.

According to MSPAS, the new cases reported symptoms from October 14 and 23. All of them are at-home screened and being monitored by professionals.

So far, the epidemiological research found that these patients are not related to each other or to previously screened cases.

Health authorities indicated that 148 cases were studied and four remain as possible positive cases.

According to Friday´s report, 43 patients have already recovered, having been symptom-free for 30 days.
