Philippines: Death toll rises to 31 due to floods

Manila, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) At least 31 people were killed by floods caused by heavy rains during the last day in the province of Maguindanao, in the southern Philippines, local authorities reported on Friday.

The deaths are concentrated in the towns of Datu odin Sinsua and Datu Blah Sinsuat. More than 67,000 Philippine nationals are affected throughout the country.

The head of the provincial disaster management office, Nasrullah Imam, said that most of them died due to floods and landslides, which left houses buried.

He warned of the possibility of an increase in the death toll, due to the fact that there are people still missing.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that Tropical Storm Nalgae is expected to bring heavy rainfall in the western part of the archipelago over the weekend.
