Major demonstration in New York against US blockade on Cuba

Washington, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Over a hundred solidarity with Cuba organizations on Saturday are staging a major demonstration in New York calling on the government to lift the US economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba.

The demonstrators are marching from the iconic Times Square building to the United Nations headquarters, as a prelude to the voting on a resolution at the UN General Assembly on the need to lift Washington´s unilateral blockade, slated for Nov.2-3.

Ike Nahem, one of its main organizers, recalled that this will be the thirtieth consecutive time that the international community will strongly condemn the US cruel and unjust blockade against Cuba.

For his part, Cuban-American activist Carlos Lazo, leader of “Puentes de Amor” Movement (Bridges of Love), pointed out that once again most countries of the world will call at the UN for lifting this unilateral blockade that has lasted over six decades.

Besides Puentes de Amor, groups like Code Pink and The People’s Forum, among others, are taking part in this demonstration as well as representatives of the Cuban emigrant community and American citizens, Lazo commented.

Over 30 demonstrations are taking place in the US this week to condemn this US punitive policy, according to a statement by a coalition made up of over 100 solidarity with Cuba organizations, united under the slogan ‘UN Vote 4 Cuba’.
