Russian advance in Donetsk pushes Ukraine to withdraw artillery

Moscow, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) The authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said today that the advance of Russian troops in that region forced the Ukrainian army to withdraw its artillery.

As reported by the Donetsk regional government on its Telegram channel on Saturday, there is an advance of Russian units and local militias in the northern and northwestern directions, which has caused Ukrainian artillery units to move away from the front line.

As a result of these successes, firing positions previously used by Ukrainian nationalists have become unsafe, and they have had to move away to ranges of more than 25 kilometers, or cease firing altogether.

These ranges no longer allow the use of 122 mm artillery, and the episodic use of individual weapons ends with the destruction of the crew and artillery units, the statement of the Donetsk authorities indicates.

Meanwhile the people’s militia of the region reported that it had registered a decrease in the number of shells fired by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 400 to 180 per day in comparison with the summer.

It also noted that the Ukrainian Army has almost completely changed its artillery systems to longer-range ones such as BM-21 Grad multiple missile launchers and HIMARS.
