The number of dangerously malnourished children admitted to Save the Children’s mobile health clinics in Afghanistan increased by 47% since January this year while babies are dying before they can receive any treatment, the organization warned in a report.
However, the Ministry of Public Health denied that assessment and claimed that services for inadequate nourishment for children in the country were increased.
The number of ill-fed children has not increased. We have increased the number of health centers. The patients coming to the capital are from the rural areas of the provinces, Health Ministry spokesman Sharafat Zaman Amerkhail said.
Since the Taliban government came to power, Save the Children has expanded its response to support the growing number of children in need in Afghanistan, according to the international organization’s own report.
Save the Children has reached more than 3.3 million people, including 1.8 million children since September 2021, providing health, nutrition, education, child protection, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene, food security and livelihood support, the report cites.
