Putin suggests visa exemption regime for foreigners

Moscow, Nov 2 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Foreign and Interior Ministries to evaluate the establishment of a visa exemption regime for foreigners without the principle of reciprocity, the Kremlin reported.

The President’s instructions state that such a status could be granted to citizens of other countries traveling to Russia for tourism, business and educational purposes, as well as to participate in sports and cultural events, the official government website reported on Wednesday.

In addition, the head of State instructed to consider extending the validity of multiple-entry tourist visas.

The Executive, together with the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service should come up with ideas to simplify the requirements for activities in the tourism sector, including the non-application of the rules of the border regime, the head of State said.

Putin also expects proposals for disseminating in the regions the St. Petersburg practice, which provides for visa-free entry and temporary stay for organized groups of foreigners traveling on cruise ships.
