Nicaragua celebrates Cuba’s victory against US blockade at UN

Managua, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) With shouts of long live Cuba and down with the blockade, members of the Embassy, Cuban residents in Nicaragua, and friends celebrated a new Cuban victory against the United States blockade at the United Nations on Thursday.

The coordinator of the Augusto C. Sandino Anti-Imperialist Network of Solidarity with the Peoples, Arturo Aguirre, highlighted the importance of this victory at the United Nations and urged the peoples of the world to take more concrete actions against that unilateral measure.

“We know that the result of these votes at the United Nations are not binding, but when we see an overwhelming result like today’s, those results are linked to the conscience of the peoples,” Aguirre told Prensa Latina.

In this regard, he noted that this victory against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than six decades is an incentive to continue the fight against Washington’s policy.

For his part, the president of the Association of Cuban Residents in Nicaragua, Rafael Ruiz, showed his joy at the results of the vote, and highlighted the commitment to following the demands for an end to the US regulations, intensified during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Cubans in Nicaragua remain firm and stand up against the criminal and genocidal blockade,” Ruiz said. The head of the Sandinista caucus in the National Assembly (unicameral parliament) of Nicaragua, Edwin Castro, sent greetings to the Cuban people and Government and congratulated them on this new victory.

For the thirtieth consecutive time, Cuba presented to the UN the draft resolution Necessity to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

This time, 185 countries voted in favor of the Cuban resolution, while two members (the United States and Israel) voted against it, and two (Ukraine and Brazil) abstained.
