In light of this situation, the Emergency Operation Center (COE, in Spanish) issued a red alert (maximum) for several localities in the northwest of the country.
According to it, due to the level of water discharge from the dam, the towns that could be most affected by possible flooding are Martin Garcia, El Pocito, Guayubin, Castañuelas and Palo Verde.
Authorities also recommended to those living in the area to refrain from crossing rivers, creeks and streams with high volumes of water.
