Israeli army prepares for an escalation in the West Bank

Ejercito--israeli
Tel Aviv, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli army is preparing for an escalation of violence in the West Bank, which is why it will acquire 2,500 bulletproof vests and fifty armored vehicles, the Yediot Aharonot newspaper revealed.

According to the newspaper, the Armed Forces (IDF) are buying bulletproof vests outfitted with ceramite plates, more resistant, in the face of assessments on more confrontations in the West Bank.

The IDF fears a worsening of the situation in the territory, where Palestinian attacks against the occupying army have increased in recent months.

The goal is to supply the troops with more sophisticated protective gear, the publication stressed.

Yediot Aharonot also said that, in addition, dozens of military posts were reinforced using higher concrete blocks and 30,000 sandbags, bought urgently in light of the tense situation, especially around the cities of Jenin and Nablus.

Both towns, located north of the riverbank, are considered fortifications of Palestinian militias, and therefore are targeted by IDF operations almost on a daily basis.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reported last week that 118 Palestinians have lost their lives so far this year, including 26 minors and five women, as a result of the actions of Israeli troops in the West Bank.

However, the Palestinian Ministry of Health raised the figure to more than 130, not including the 51 killed in the Gaza Strip.
