Rome, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) The 13th Congress of the Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association (ANAIC) on Saturday reaffirmed in Brescia its solidarity with the Caribbean island and condemned the United States blockade against Havana.

In statements to Prensa Latina, ANAIC delegate from Rome Catia Funari assessed the work made by Marco Papacci, president of that organization, during the last four years in support of Cuba.

Funari pointed out that dozens of representatives from several organizations took part in the event, both in person and virtually, and expressed their support for Cuba and ANAIC’s work.

Many presentations highlighted Cuba’s victory at the United Nations General Assembly recently when 185 countries voted in favor of the resolution that condemns the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation.

The video participation of MEPs Manu Pineda, from Spain, and Massimiliano Smeriglio, from Italy, the latter from Artemisa, Cuba, was also noted.

Smeriglio showed the work made in support of Cuba’s western provinces after Hurricane Ian, and Pineda referred to the example of solidarity by the Cuban people and the extraterritorial nature of the criminal US blockade.

Diplomats from several countries also sent messages of support; among those Funari mentioned the one by Nicaraguan Ambassador to Rome Monica Robelo, who said that the Cuban Revolution has been a beacon for her country.

Venezuelan Chargé d’Affaires to Italy Maria Elena Uzzo referred to the importance of Cuba’s example for Venezuela, stressing the relations between the historical leaders of both nations, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.

Papacci read a message from Italian journalist and writer Gianni Miná, who stated that Cuba is a significant example of progress and highlighted the new Family Code approved in that country.

Messages from Cuba were received from dozens of representatives of the Cuban people, including Gerardo Hernandez, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), lawmaker Mariela Castro, and Aleida Guevara, from the Che Guevara Study Center.

Maurizio Acerbo, from the Communist Refoundation Party, and Marco Rizzo, from the Communist Party, spoke on behalf of Italian political organizations.

Labor leaders Sergio Bassoli, from the General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), and Stefano de Angelis, from the Grassroots Unions, were also present.
