Congress of friendship association with Cuba concludes in Italy

Rome, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) The 13th Congress of the Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association (Anaic), concluded today with a new board of directors, after the vote of 120 delegates who re-elected Marco Papacci as president.

Catia Funari, delegate for the circle of Rome, informed Prensa Latina that, on this last day of the event, which began on the 4th of this month in the northern city of Brescia, documents prepared by the commissions were approved, which will govern the work of the association in the next four years.

The Cuban ambassador to Italy, Mirta Granda, spoke on this day, accompanied by the first vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Noemí Rabaza, and the director for Europe of that organization, Rigoberto Zarza.

Granda pointed out that the history of solidarity with his country “cannot be narrated without including, with capital letters, Anaic,” which for more than 60 years has shown that supporting Cuba and its revolution, “more than a commitment, is a reason for life”.

With its strength, capacity and tenacity, this association has accompanied the Cuban people at every moment of its revolutionary history, in victories and in times of crisis, always as a voice of encouragement and effective support through campaigns, donations, mobilizations and other initiatives, emphasized the diplomat.

The ambassador referred to the support of this organization in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, and in demanding the return of the territory illegally occupied by that country in the Guantánamo Naval Base.

Anaic has done a lot so far and much is what we are sure will continue to do, she said, and referred to the importance of work on social networks, in the press, in campaigns to spread the Cuban reality and combat misinformation and news manipulation.

She alluded to the promotion of cooperation initiatives, “because the future of the Cuban Revolution is also defined in the economic battle” and raised the importance of actions with political impact.

She called to deepen the work with young people, to promote unity, because “only in unity will we find the strength to triumph in these battles”, also adding to the community of Cubans in Italy, “those who love and found”.

This congress that concludes, she assured, “marks a new stage that, without a doubt, will be characterized by the deepening of the association’s support to the Cuban Revolution and people.”

Granda assured “Cuba will continue to be that alternative that you see as a beacon and as an example that a better world is possible” that “we will continue to fight together with the certainty that we will win because truth, justice and virtue accompany us.”

After his re-election as president, Papacci pointed out that a difficult year is approaching, and reaffirmed the commitment to respond to the trust placed in him by the members of Anaic, to lead the organization towards new achievements in its solidarity with Cuba.
