Sweden promises to comply with memorandum with Türkiye

Stockholm, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) Sweden intends to fully comply with the terms of the memorandum that, together with Finland, signed with Türkiye to join NATO, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said on Tuesday.

Our country fully implements the document penned with Türkiye, he was quoted as saying by the Daily Sabah newspaper.

Following a meeting with Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Šentop Šentop, the prime minister noted that the Parliament started working with Türkiye to establish a Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Kristersson arrived in Ankara on Monday, and during the second day of his official visit to Türkiye he is expected to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Sweden is seeking membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which Türkiye initially opposed, but then presented a number of conditions.

The conditions are set out in a memorandum inked by Sweden, Finland and Türkiye.

In particular, it establishes that Sweden and Finland must take measures against groups of people associated with terrorist activities, according to Ankara.
