Covid-19 lockdowns in German regions lifted

Berlin, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) Four German federal states (Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, and Schleswig-Holstein) agreed on Friday to revoke the obligation to keep a five-day lockdown for travelers due to Covid-19.

These are people infected with Covid-19, a disease that has been reemerging in recent days in this nation. The measure seeks, among other things, to protect the development of tourism and trade.

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health announced that this new regulation should come into force quickly and details are being worked out.

Instead (of quarantine), the Lander will introduce adapted mandatory protective measures, such as the stricter use of facemasks for people who test positive, as well as (other) recommendations, they said.

The decision was criticized by Federal Healthcare Minister Karl Lauterbach, who said that the measure is untimely time and has not been approved by the Federal Government.

The minister explained that there some 1,000 deaths are reported everu week due to the pandemic, and a new wave during the winter is expected.
