The Ministry had announced previously that in the summer of 2021 it had signed a contract for the production of a batch of Tsirkon missiles, thus, this order will be the second of its kind.

The agreement provides for several dozen missiles to be delivered early in 2023, according to the Ministry.

The first trials of the Tsirkon hypersonic missiles were carried out by the Admiral Gorshkov frigate.

In 2021, the Severodvinsk nuclear-powered submarine also conducted tests.

Beginning in October 10th, Tsirkon missiles proved highly effective during Russia’s strikes against Ukraine’s command, power and communications infrastructures, beginning on October 10th.

The Tsirkon missile was developed by and is produced at the NPO Mashinostroyenia company in the city of Reutov.
