Spain sends humanitarian aid to Cuba

Madrid, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID) informed on Monday that it has sent a humanitarian shipment to Cuba.

AECID said in a communiqué that last Saturday a humanitarian shipment was sent by sea to Cuba from its warehouse in Panama.

The shipment consists of basic products for the people most affected by Hurricane Ian.

The text pointed out that the items sent are worth some 100,000 euros.

The Spanish agency recalled that Ian was one of the most destructive hurricanes that have hit Cuba in recent years.

The hurricane landed in Pinar del Rio and affected 3.2 million people, according to the United Nations, in the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Havana, and Isla Juventud.

The AECID explained that this new contribution complements the appeal from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the first moments of the emergency, after Hurricane Ian.

The humanitarian shipment consists of 450 hygiene kits and as many kitchen kits, 900 sets of sheets, 450 jerry cans for water, 600 zinc sheets -for roofing- and plastic tarpaulins.

All this will be distributed by Pinar del Río’s Provincial Government to the most affected families.
